San Diego mormon Battalion

The Mormon Battalion was the only religiously based unit in United States Military history. It served for a year in the mid-1840s. The Battalion played a pivotal role in the U.S.'s successful push to secure land in the western states. During its service, the battalion marched nearly 2,000 miles from Council Bluffs, Iowa, to San Diego. The Mormon Battalion Historic Site in Old Town San Diego tells the whole intriguing story.
